When I heard the story of how the Copperpoint Brewery came to be, all I could think about were the vibes that the brewery gave off when I first entered their doors; it screamed “FAMILY!”


Matt Cox started brewing in 1999 and took over brewing operations at Big Bear Brewing Company in 2001. He has won 50+ awards, including the prestigious Gold Medal at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) for his Belgian Dubbel. He has also taken Gold medals at the North American Brewers Assoc., multiple medals at the US Open Beer Championships, and multiple Grand National Champion Awards at the United States Beer Tasting Championships.

After a 9 month search for the perfect space, owners, Al Lettera and Matt Cox, decided on Boynton Beach for their brewery when they found a great building that was perfect for their operation & they finally opened their doors in 2015. Matt and his wife work together with Al & their staff of under 20 people to truly give you that “family style” feeling when you walk through their doors.


Brewmaster, Matt Cox, brews his “traditional beer styles with bold, intense flavors” and several seasonal beers that will range from 5%-12% alcohol on a 20 bbl, DME brewing system, built in Prince Edward Island. Initially utilizing 5 fermenters, (3 – 20bbl and 2 – 40bbls). Patrons can enjoy what Matt describes as “diverse beers and some experimental, out of the box styles” in a spacious, and nicely built out, air conditioned, tasting room.

The tasting room has a warm, industrial feel with a glass window looking into the brewery. The full time tasting room is open to the public who can come for a pint, growler fills, tours, and catch some games on TV. Food is available by delivery by one of the on-site food trucks or catering.

(They currently have a their bock sitting in “Angels Envy” barrels that will be sitting in the cask for 6-9 months!)

We were really excited when it was time to take the tour! And what made it even better was our friend Jim offered us a glass of our choice of beer! Marilyn went for the “Blood Orange Wit” & I went for the “B Rabbit Nitro Stout.” We learned that what makes them different than most breweries (and you can definitely taste it in the beer) is that Matt is a stickler for being clean; Jim gave us the break down that 80-85% of the time in the brewery is spent cleaning the equipment & 15-20% of the time is actually spent brewing beer. They use reverse osmosis to provide the water for the beer & they steam heat their beer instead of just boiling the water for higher temps.


An even cooler thing we learned is for whatever beer is being brewed, they use hops and grains specific to that region to give you a taste like it was coming from there. Which makes it easy to understand why their lager and pilsner fly off the shelves! Their lager is bought so much that they don’t even tap it! They get it straight from the tank!


*Fun Fact: Their lagers and pilsners sit in their tanks for up to six weeks! This makes it harder to brew than other beers because it takes that long to ferment; you can taste the quality in Copperpoints beers!

They’re all about local love too and use nothing but all natural ingredients in their process. When their grains and hops are all used up, they have local farmers come and pick it up to use it as feed for their animals. They recently also collaborated with 5 diff breweries and brewed an “Irma Beer” where all the proceeds gained went straight to Puerto Rico!

They currently have 12 BEERS ON TAP! And what makes it more amazing is that each one is different from the last and they are all brewed in house!


Here are the explanations from the brewery:

Lager (5% Alc/ 18 IBU): Malty, Amber, German style lager with slight malt sweetness. Flavors of toasted bread, very easy drinking, smooth everyday session lager.

Das Pils (5.2% Alc/ 40 IBU): Classically brewed German Pilsner; All German malts, yeast and Noble hops. Lagered for six weeks for a smooth, mellow flavor.
Delicate malt character, light body, with a crisp hop finish.

Witness (5.3% Alc/ 14 IBU): Classically brewed Belgian Wit: Brewed with 5O% wheat malt, spiced with traditional spices of orange peel and coriander, unfiltered and very hazy. Mild wheat flavor with citrus undertones.

Blood Orange Wit (5.3% Alc/ 50 IBU): Our classic Beligian witbier infused with generous amounts of Blood Orange for a bold, citrus character.

*Trula Saison (6.3% Alc/ 40 IBU): Rustic Belgian style farmhouse ale, old world brewing techniques of warm fermentation to bring out the complexity of the yeast stain for true to style flavors, aroma’s and mouth feel. Boldly hopped with Heirloom noble hops with no spices added. All the unique flavors present are from the yeast strain and hops used in the brewing.

“G” (Grapefruit) Saison (6.3% Alc/ 40 IBU): Our Trula saison with the addition of Ruby Red Grapefruit for extra drinkability and refreshment. Perfect for the warm Florida weather!

A-10 Hop Hog (7% Alc/ 55 IBU): Red IPA; Intense complex red IPA with the delicious Mosaic hop varietal. Bright tropical mango and passion fruit flavors from the mosaic hop with a firm malt backbone.

B-20 Bombardier (9.6% Alc/ 90 IBU): B 20 bombardier is the imperial version of our A-10 Hophog Red IPA. We dropped a payload of Amarillo and Mosaic hops on a huge malt base. Dangerously smooth and balanced at 9.6%ABV and 90IBU. Our Award-Winning B-20 Bombardier was named Grand National Champion Double IPA at the 2016 United States Beer Tasting Championship.

One Love IPA (7.0% Alc/ 60 IBU): Bold, hop forward American IPA (Indian Pale Ale); Copious amounts of whole leaf Cascade and Simcoe hops for a bold bright flavor, smooth balanced character with notes of citrus and pine standing out.

B Rabbit Espresso Cream Stout (6.0%/ 20 IBU): Classic British style oatmeal cream stout, smooth creamy balanced and roasted flavors. Infused with locally roasted Rabbit coffee from Rivera Beach. This stout is nitrogen infused so it is a lively pour and needs time to settle.

Here’s what I thought:

Lager: Amber lager; delicious crisp flavor, malty, washes over your pallet, light.

Das pils: Light. Crisp. Refreshing. Smooth. Felt like I was back in Oktoberfest.

Witness: Was not on tap.

Blood Orange Wit: Has a malty hoppy after taste. Tastes like a citrusy tripel.

*Trula Saison: Special release for the holidy; was bottled (will review when opened & tasted)

“G” (Grapefruit) Saison: Slight citrus aftertaste. Nots of Mango. Light. Crisp. Refreshing.

A-10 Hop Hog: Hoppy. Crisp. Refreshing. Not over bearing. The lighter version of the B-20 Bombardier.

B-20 Bombardier: Full bodied IPA. Crisp. A legit hoppy IPA. Not too heavy or overbearing.

One Love IPA: Was not on tap.

B Rabbit Espresso Stout: Full bodied stout. Creamy. Smooth. Washes over your pallet. Tastes of espresso at the end.

Pumpkin Queen: Legit pumpkin ale. Cinnamon aftertaste. not too sweet. Washes over your pallet.

Keys To Summer: Taste like biting into a delicious fresh key lime pie, but it’s drizzled in honey as well. Crisp. Refreshing.

Just Beet It: Taste like a beety raspberry juice. Delicious. Can sit back and drink this all day.

Baby Got Bock: A true bock. Notes of coffee. Clean, crisp taste. Delicious.

2017 Cox Diesel: Coffee stout. Full bodied. True stout. Completely envelopes your mouth.

*Unreleased IPA*: Supreme citrus scents. Hoppy as well. Is almost ready for release so taste will change. The happiness is not overbearing. It’s crisp, refreshing. Not heavy at all.

So all in all while we didn’t eat anything; the ambiance of the brewery, the service from the staff and the beers we were served I would give Copperpoint Brewing Company 5 out of 5 piggys!
