“Third times the charm” would be the phrase I would use for the branding of the brewery everyone has come to know and love!
Originally, the penned name for the beloved MIA Beer Company was going to be “Most Wanted Brewing” which then changed to MIA Bruhaus, but since it sounded eerily similar to Miami Brewing Co and wanting to just not get the two confused, all three owners decided on the final name which came to be MIA Beer Company.
Eddy (one of the owners) had been homebrewing for three years and finally decided he wanted to change it up and when he joined forces with the other two owners they had their soft opening in December 2015 & fully launched January 2016.
Probably as Miami as it gets, this brewery has two pages of beers you can choose from which are all brewed in house! You can either go for a light beer, a hoppy beer, a dark and strong beer or sour and wild beers.
Here’s what we decided to go for!
Here Are The Explanations From The Brewery:
Light
305 [Golden Ale (5% ABV)]: A light and crisp session golden ale brewed with a
touch of West Coast hops. The finish is dry and clean.
MIAMI WEISS [Hefeweizen (6% ABV)]: Our #1 flagship beer. Traditional German Hefeweizen brewed with wheat, barley, & sweet orange peel. This hefe yeast produces vanilla, banana & bubblegum esters.
ZOO BREW [Summer Ale (5% ABV)]: A crisp and thirst quenching ale with balanced,
aromatic hops bursting with hints of strawberry and watermelon . No perceivable bitterness makes this one very repeatable.
SHARONA [Mexican Lager (5% ABV)]: Straw-colored dry lager brewed with Maize and Mexican lager yeast and Hallertaur hops.
627 [Saison (6.5% ABV)]: Belgian Style Saison brewed with coriander, lemon peel and fresh kaffir lime leaves.
Hoppy
CHINOOK ME ALL NIGHT LONG [Double IPA (8.1% ABV)]: Chinook and Amarillo IPA with a light Pilsner base and deep pine flavors.
JAZZERCISE [Miami Style IPA (7.5% ABV)]: Malt forward and balanced English IPA.
MEGAMIX [Pale Ale (6% ABV)]: A West-Coast style light bodied pale ale with a Megamix of Mosaic, Galaxy and Citra late addition and dry hops. Hugely aromatic and mildly bitter.
MIAMI HAZE [Wheat Pale Ale (6.4% ABV)]: A West-Coast style light bodied pale ale with a Megamix of Mosaic, Galaxy and Citra late addition and dry hops. Hugely aromatic and mildly bitter.
BLACK NEON [Black Wheat IPA (7.5% ABV)]: A delicious dark version of our juicy Citra-hopped White IPA using debittered black malt for only an afterthought of roast.
WANTED [IPA (8.3% ABV)]: A single hopped amarillo IPA that is hazy, juicy and full of floral aroma.
LIBERATION FREQUENCY [Dry Hopped Vienna Lager (6.7% ABV)]: MIA/ Our Mutual Friend Brewing Company (Denver, CO) dry hopped vienna lager with grungiest (German experimental) and Colorado grown cascade and Chinook. Named after a song by the both brewers favorite band Refused.
Dark/Strong
BALTIZAR [Baltic Porter (6.5% ABV)]: Epic Baltic porter built with a complex malt layering yielding a port wine, dried fruit sweetness that finishes with a hint of dark chocolate & light roasted coffee. Carbonated and nitrogenated versions offered.
BIG IN JAPAN [Sake Beer (9% ABV)]: This Japanese hybrid judo chop to the mouth is made with malt, rice, & sake yeast. Soft notes of rice, plum, pear, & tropical fruit with a dry & crisp finish.
BOOGIE NIGHTS [Dopplebock (7% ABV)]: This seasonal Doppelbock has rich caramel flavors as a result of caramel malts. It has a hint of roast as an afterthought with a smooth clear finish.
TOURIST TRAPPE [Belgian Tripel (10% ABV)]: Triple that has a Belgian Abby strain with spicy yet soft, well rounded esters. Brewed with Belgian candy sugar for increased abv and dryness.
CZARFACE [Russian Imperial Stout (9.5% ABV)]: Our one and only Russian Imperial Stout. Seven different malts with layers of chocolate, oat, and caramel. Big body and mouth feel with a thick mocha head.
JOYSTICK [Indian Brown Lager (5.6% ABV)]: This India Brown Lager has the hop presence of an IPA, the bready toasty malt background of a brown ale and the clean low ester profile of a lager.
SOMBRERO NEGRO [Dark Mexican Lager (4.4% ABV)]: This vienna style is crisp, light and smooth with hints of toffee.
Sour & Wild
BREWJERIA [Barrel Aged Gose With Lemongrass (4.6% ABV)]: Barrel-soured gose with lemongrass.
CRIME OF PASSION [Wild Ale With Passion Fruit (7.4% ABV)]: Mixed culture (lactos/pedios/bretts) wild ale, 9 months in oak, with passion fruit.
LOST IN PARADISE [Saison With Pink Peppercorn & Passion Fruit (7% ABV)]: Passion fruit, pink peppercorn saison fermented at 95º for huge exaggerated farmhouse, funky yeast esters. Brewed with Belgian candy sugar for increased alcohol and dryness.
SPECIAL RELEASE
Peligro: This was brewed in honor of one of the brewers from MIA who passed away. It’s a wild/sour ale. It was actually his own recipe!
Here’s What I Thought:
305: A light golden colour. There was a slight peppered scent; light, crisp tastes. An easy drinking beer.
MIAMI WEISS: This had a nice golden amber colour. It had malty, bready scents. You can tell that there is wheat in it. Crisp, smooth tastes. Taste like liquefied wheat toast.
ZOO BREW: Straw colour; Hop forward, citrus scents; a little hoppy pop in taste, but it’s crisp as well. Tastes lighter than it smells.
SHARONA: Straw coloured beer; It has light malty scents; its a light, crisp lager.
627: An amber gold coloured beer; ale scents, fruity with a slight pepper scent; This one has a nice, long finish. You can taste some coriander, but there a bit of sourness, a slight lemon taste.
CHINOOK ME ALL NIGHT LONG: A clouded golden colour; Scents of an orange/christmas tree. It also had citrusy/piney tastes as well. It was citrus forward with a piney finish. Light, hoppy on the back of the tongue.
JAZZERCISE: A golden colour; Hoppy, citrusy scents. And tastes just like it smells. But the taste isn’t too hopforward but the citrus tastes leaves an impression.
MEGAMIX: A darker golden colour; citrusy, hoppy scents. Very hop forward tastes, but crisp as well. Doesn’t make you cringe; leaves a resonance of hops.
MIAMI HAZE: A clouded straw colour; A kind of tangerine, citrus hoppy scent. You can taste the wheat on this one with a nice, long hoppy finish. It’s light and citrusy as well.
BLACK NEON: Black colour; hoppy scents. An awesome black IPA. Hoppy, slight citrus. Balanced malty and hoppy tastes.
WANTED: A nice golden colour; Slight citrus scents, hops are prevalent, but it’s not too hop forward in the scents. There are actually more hops in the taste than in the smell. IT really pops, with floral tastes and scents as well.
LIBERATION FREQUENCY: A caramel amber colour beer; Citrusy, hoppy and malty scents too; Balanced. A hoppy, malty beer. It’s delicious, crisp and smooth.
BALTIZAR: A dark, dark brown/ black colour. Chocolate scents. Malty, burnt coffee tastes. Hint of fruitiness and dark chocolate.
BIG IN JAPAN: A golden colour; You can smell the sake, which is amazing. Malty, sake tastes as well. There a bit of fruitiness to it as well, kind of like a plum. Delicious, hits the back of your tongue.
BOOGIE NIGHTS: Black colour; malty toasted roasted scents; malty tastes as well. Goes down smooth.
TOURIST TRAPPE: A caramel golden colour; Had ale scents where you got a whiff of fruity esters; a bit of a spice to it as well. It hits the back of your tongue, it pops and you can taste the alcohol, but not in a bad way. It leaves a great aftertaste. An easy drinker which is dangerous for this one.
CZARFACE: Black colour; Chocolate, malty scents, coffee scents too. Full bodied tastes. You can taste that it’s an imperial stout. Chocolatey, burnt coffee tastes as well.
JOYSTICK: A nice amber colour; Caramel/malty scents. Malty, hoppy on the tongue with some caramel flavors as well.
SOMBRERO NEGRO: A nice amber brown colour, but a little on the darker side. Malty, lager scents, but light on the nose. Light malty tastes, east to drink with a bit of a kick at the end. Kind of a peanutty toffee taste.
BREWJERIA: Straw coloured; for sure this is an ale. Wild, yeasty scents. Farmhouse for sure, lemon scents as well. Sour and lemony taste as well.
CRIME OF PASSION: A light golden amber colour; wild, sour scents with a splash of citrus as well. Wild and sour tastes as well, you can definitely taste the passion fruit.
LOST IN PARADISE: A gold/straw coloured beer; Ale scents, fruitiness with some spices as well; It has sour, wild tastes. You can taste the citrus, the peppercorn and the passion fruit. Great beer.
PELIGRO: A pink colour; It’s a wild ale with straight guava scents; has a bit of a sour taste, but doesn’t make you pucker your lips. It’s delicious and has a smooth finish.
So all in all with the ambiance of the brewery, the food and the beers we were served I would give MIA Beer Company 4.5 out of 5 piggys!
